HUBUNGAN DUKUNGAN KELUARGA TERHADAP KEPATUHAN MINUM OBAT PADA PASIEN JIWA DIPOLI KLINIK RUMAH SAKIT JIWA ACEH

Abstract

Abstract: Adherence to medication is a persistence in which a patient decides to take medication. The adherence might
be correlated to some intrinsic factors which can be influenced by family support. Family should be helpful in fulfilling
the needs of the patient, supporting the patient’s adherence to medication, reminding the patient to value his or her
health, and deciding the type of medication that will be received by the patient. Based on the preliminary research done
by the researcher and the data taken from Aceh Mental hospital, there were 11608 patients with mental illness that
visited the polyclinic of the hospital in 2017 with 44.66 visits each day. This research was conducted from May 23 to
June 3, 2017 by distributing questionnaires to the respondents. The results showed that the patients’ adherence was
mostly in good category (56 respondents; 56%), the families’ informational support was in good category (51
respondents; 51%), the families’ appraisal support was in good category (54 respondents; 54%), the families’
instrumental support was in good category (55 respondents; 55%), and the families’ emotional support was also in
good category (54 respondents; 54%). In addition, according to the result of statistical analysis, the patients’
adherence to medication was correlated to their families’ informational support (p-value = 0.005), appraisal support
(p-value = 0.003), instrumental support (p-value = 0.007), and emotional support (p-value = 0.003). It is suggested
that Aceh Mental Hospital keep giving information and socialization to the family of each patient so that they will keep
supporting the patient.
