HUBUNGAN PERAN IBU DALAM MEMBIMBING MENYIKAT GIGI DENGAN KEJADIAN KARIES PADA ANAK BALITA DI TK BUNGONG SEULANGA 2 GEUNTENG KECAMATAN MEURAH DUA KABUPATEN PIDIE JAYA

Abstract

Toddlers are children aged between one year to five years. Toodlers’ needs of daily activities are still dependent on others such as eating, defecating, and also personal hygiene.. It should be noted by mothers early. The role of a mother in child's dental health is as a motivator, educator and facilitator. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the role of the mother in guiding toothbrushing to dental caries occurence towards toodlers in kindergarten Bungong Seulanga 2 Geunteng subdistrict Meurah Dua Pidie Jaya.

The research design was used analytic with cross sectional design method approach. The population of this research was all mothers and students in kindergarten Bungong Seulanga 2 Geunteng subdistrict Meurah Dua districts Pidie Jaya with amount of sampel used 60 respondents. The independent variable was mother role as motivator, educator, and facilitator. The dependent variable was dental caries status. The instruments of data collection were used questionnaires and checkup cards of dental and mouth. The data analysis was used Chi-Square with signitive level p<0,05.

The result of this research indicated that from 60 respondents found that the mother’s role as deficient motivator was 39 people (65%), educator was 35 people ((58%), facilitator was 38 people (63%).

It can be concluded that the there is a relationship between the roles of mother in guiding toothbrushing to caries occurrence towards toddlers, mother’s role as motivator (p = 0,013), mother’s role as educator (p= 0,014), and mother’s role as facilitator (p = 0,022). It is suggested that the mother of students in the Bungong Seulanga 2 kindergarten Geunteng to pay more attention further in preventing caries occurence, providing the need in terms of dental and mouth health such as providing toothbrush, toothpaste and teaching about toothbrushing to the toodlers correctly.
