Abstract


Adolescence is a time of change from child hood to adulthood. At this time, young women are more sensitive and satisfied dissatisfied with appearance, so pay more attention to their appearance. This can be questioned by several factors that can cause reactions to body image, one of which is an abnormal body mass index (BMI) in individuals. The purpose of the study was to study the relationship between Body Mass Index and body image of teenage girls in class I and class II in SMA N 4 Banda Aceh. This type of research is an analytic survey using cross sectional. The population in the study were 327 adolescents. The research sample uses simple random sampling of 180 teenagers. Data analysis method used is chi-square. Research instruments using questionnaires, microtoise, and scales. The independent variable of the study is the Mass Index. While the dependent variable is body image. The results of the research prove that most of the students had negative body image, namely 104 (57.8%), and 76 (42.2%) students had positive body image. Chi-square analysis results obtained p value = 0,000 <α (0.05) which means there is a relationship between Body Mass Index with body image of teenage girls in class I and class II in SMA N 4 Banda Aceh.
