Determinan Orang Tua terhadap Pengalaman Karies Gigi pada Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus di Banda Aceh
Abstract
Dental and oral health problems most often found in children with special needs are dental caries, periodontal disease, damage to the oral cavity environment, tooth eruption abnormalities, and trauma. Dental and oral health of children with special needs is very dependent on the behavior of parents because they have limitations in themselves. This study will examine the parents' determinants of the experience of dental caries in children with special needs in the city of Banda Aceh. This type of research is observational analytic using cross sectional design. The population in this study were 164 mothers of children with special needs in the city of Banda Aceh. The research sample is the total population. Data collection was carried out by interview using a questionnaire and dental examination using an odontogram. Data were analyzed by statistical logistic regression test. Statistical test results obtained have a relationship There is a relationship between basic maternal education (p = 0.028: OR 10), maternal knowledge (p = 0.022: OR 2), maternal motivation (p = 0.006: OR 2.4), and the independence of children brushing their teeth (p = 0.028: OR = 2.1) with dental caries experience of children with special needs. Multivariate analysis results obtained basic maternal education (p = 0.028 OR = 10 95% CI; 1.40-95.75) so that it is the most related factor to the experience of dental caries in children with special needs. The Banda Aceh City Health Office can collaborate with educational institutions on how to teach oral hygiene independence to children with special needs by involving parents in dental and oral care practices.
